George Clooney's description of falling in love with wife Amal is too romantic for words
Listen to actor George Clooney recall the first time he met his wife Amal while on The Drew Barrymore Show
Fair warning: listening to 61-year-old actor George Clooney recall the first time he ever met his current wife Amal will have you feeling tingles (and jealousy!) all over your body.
While on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote his new movie Ticket to Paradise, where Julia Roberts and George Clooney share an on-camera kiss that took 80 takes to film, George was asked what he thought of Amal, his spouse, the first time he met her.
Spoiler alert: it was love at first sight for the at-the-time famously single bachelor.

"It was funny. She came to the house in Como with a friend of hers," George said. "The funniest thing is, Bryan Lourd, my agent, had just met Amal and told me he was going to Como with a friend of his. He called me up and said, 'There's a girl coming to your house that you're going to marry.' And I was like, 'You're an idiot, that's not going to happen.'"
But, after inciting a laugh from the rapt audience, George went on to declare his immediate attraction for Amal.
"In comes Amal and we stayed up all night talking and then I started writing her a bunch of letters," George recalled to a clearly surprised Drew. "We still write letters. We leave them on the pillow!” Swoon indeed.
This isn’t the first time that George opened up about his relationship. Back in January of 2018, the two-time Academy Award winner spoke about the topic while on David Letterman's Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, relating the same story he related to Drew this month.

As fans of the couple remember, George popped the question to the Lebanese-British barrister, now 44 years old, a mere six months after they started dating.
The two got married on September 27, 2014 at the Aman Canal Grand hotel in Venice, Italy. Loads of celebrities were present, including Anna Wintour, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Cindy Crawford and Matt Damon, among others. The bride donned a beautiful custom lace dress by Oscar de la Renta.
Fast-forward eight years and George and Amal are now parents to 5-year-old twins Ella and Alexander. In an interview a few years ago, George addressed the reason why him and Amal chose the pretty non-Hollywood-like names (which we happen to love!).
As has been the case since the beginning of their romance, the couple is one of the most scrutinized in Hollywood - and for good reason: George is a stellar actor with countless accolades under his belt and Amal’s poise, sense of style and dedication to human rights activism render her a pretty interesting character to analyze.
Speaking of fashion, we'd be remiss not to mention some of Amal's most iconic look in the past few months, including the stunning strapless dress she wore on the red carpet in London and the zebra print skirt that's become the most versatile style update we've seen all season. Can you blame George for falling in love with Amal at first sight?
