Michelle Dockery has been absent from our screens since the finale of Downton last December, but her new role is far from the prim and proper Lady Mary.
Michelle’s latest series sees her swapping pearls and petticoats for guns and hitmen as she plays a drug-abusing American con artist called Letty Dobesh. The new series titled ‘Good Behaviour’ follows Letty, who is trying to get her life in order after being released from prison. The series shows Letty as she becomes involved in a relationship with a dangerous hitman, played by Juan Diego Botto.
The US series will air in November and casts Michelle in a different light to the iconic Lady Mary. Michelle says the complete U-turn in roles wasn’t intentional, instead she was driven by a strong attraction to the troubled character of Letty. Michelle told The Telegraph: “It was very fortunate for me that this came along at the right time. It wasn’t a conscious decision to do something so totally different from Lady Mary but I was completely hooked on the script from the first page and I love the complexity of the character.”
Pictures from Good Behaviour show Michelle in red and blonde wigs as she assumes different personalities as a con artist. Michelle said that each of the wigs she wore had their own names. Check out Michelle’s new looks in the Good Behaviour trailer below:
Michelle has also revealed that a Downton movie could well be on the cards and is something she’d be interested in. She said: “I think there is a potential for a film. That is something I would wholeheartedly consider, so we will see. It may not be over yet.”
Downton’s creator Julian Fellowes has also expressed hope that the series will make a return in the future, in a feature length film format.
While it looks like Downton fans will have to wait a while to see their favourite characters return, a Downton movie appears a definite possibility with both key cast members and writers fully supporting it. Watch this space.
