Kate Garraway reveals husband Derek's final texts before going into an induced Coma due to Covid-19
The GMB presenter has written a book about her ordeal
Kate Garraway has revealed the last texts that her husband Derek sent to her before he was put in a coma last year.
The ITV presenter shares extracts from her new book in today's Daily Mail, where she writes about her struggle last year when her husband was diagnosed with Covid-19.
In the book, she reveals that one of his last texts was: "I literally feel like I'm drowning and every breath is my last."
Kate's new book, the Power of Hope, which is out on Thursday, reveals her struggle with her husband's condition and the impact it had on her whole family.
Former political adviser Derek was first admitted to hospital in March last year with Covid-19 symptoms before being diagnosed with the virus. He was later placed in a coma, which he woke from in July.
Derek returned to the family home earlier this month but throughout Derek's battle with Covid-19, presenter Kate has been balancing working on ITV’s Good Morning Britain while looking after their two children Darcey, 15 and Billy, 11.
In the book, Kate reveals that after she experienced being on ITV's I'm a Celebrity Get me Out of Here she thought she had survived a tough year and couldn't wait to start 2020 on a high.

However, she goes on to reveal how husband Derek started to get Covid-19 symptoms last March, which he was later hospitalized for. His symptoms quickly got worse and doctors finally put him in an induced Coma.
Now the GMB presenter has revealed the texts that her husband sent just before he was put in the coma. She says Derek wrote: 'I've been playing down how really awful it is. It is second after second of being locked in a mask thinking every second you're going to die. I think they now may want to put me to sleep.'

Kate goes on to say: "He was referring to the induced coma they had told me about." While, she went on to reveal more of Derek's texts, which said: "It is unimaginable. I literally feel like I'm drowning and every breath is my last. Please tell them both I love them. The doctor says there's no chance of me dying. I just have to keep going."
When her husband finally came home earlier this month Kate revealed the news on GMB, describing how the couple’s children excitedly ran outside and up to their father after they pulled up.
“I could see two little faces of Darcey and Billy looking out the window and I could see literally see Billy say ‘he's here!’ and they sort of ran out and ran forward,” Kate said.
