Skincare mogul Liz Earle knows that the prospect of dating can feel daunting - even more so as you get older and contend with the changing landscape.

For people who didn’t grow up with mobile phones dictating every decision, the idea of online dating and apps after 50 might seem strange, but there are ways you can make it work. Liz knows this first-hand. She did it, and she found love - and she’s far from the only one. Stars including Trinny Woodall and Emilia Fox have talked about their experience embracing the apps.

Offering candid, open advice with her social media followers, Liz shared: “I know it can feel daunting, but we don't have to navigate it alone.” Her top tips for getting comfortable with online dating are practical, rooted in experience and a great starting point for anyone hesitating.

In her video, Liz starts with a simple, overall bit of advice. She says, "Online dating after 50. I've done it, and I found love. You know, my first tip: get comfortable with being single.

"A partner, I think, should add to an already fulfilling life, not kind of be there because you need your life completing."

Acknowledging that online dating can feel "unromantic" and not exactly the stuff of great romcoms, Liz reassures any sceptics that it’s “actually one of the most reliable ways to meet somebody new” while staying safe.

On staying safe, she shares some salient pointers for anyone unfamiliar with the experience of online profiles and dating.

She says, "Just use your first name initially. Meet somewhere in public. Keep that first date short. A cup of coffee is ideal.”

"Always have your own way home. Don't get into a car with somebody you don't know."

Notably, Liz’s advice goes beyond the practicalities. Safety first, of course, but it’s also important you remember to measure your expectations. She says in the video, "Remember, it's a numbers game. You know, not every date will lead anywhere.

"Try and enjoy the experience of just going out and meeting new people and be honest with yourself. What are you really looking for at this stage of life? You know, our priorities change."

Above all though, the skincare and wellbeing expert wants people to remember it’s never too late. Maybe one chapter didn’t end the way you expected, but there’s no reason to end the story there.
