Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, may never have got a chance to meet her mother-in-law, but it seems she's keen to channel the late Princess in her fashion choices.
On her recent royal visit to Dublin, Ireland, the Duchess swapped dresses for practicality, changing in to a stunning black Givenchy pant suit for their second engagement of the day.
She finished the look with a simple white t-shirt, and matching black heels, keeping her outfit simple and sophisticated.
But the comparisons between Meghan Markle and her late mother-in-law are easy to see in her choice of outfit.
Throughout her life, Princess Diana would often opt for androgynous outfit choices – and the classic black suit became one of her most iconic looks.
In fact, Diana wore a similar black suit to Meghan’s during her first official overseas tour of Canada – while Meghan chose one for her first tour of Ireland.
When wearing suits, Diana would often pair the look with a high-neck white top underneath – something Meghan has also mimicked when wearing suits herself.
It’s not the first time Meghan has decided on a suit for a royal event though. Way back in November, the Duchess wore one to the Endeavour Fund awards – her first black-tie event with Prince Harry.
Harry’s wife also took inspiration from Diana during the recent Trooping the Colour. She donned a stunning blush-pink ensemble, which was remarkably similar to Diana’s outfit for the ceremony in 1989.
Could the Duchess be looking to the style icon – and Harry’s mum – for inspiration as she eases herself into her new royal role?
Since getting together with Meghan, Harry has been keen to introduce her to aspects of his mother’s life, and help her get to know who she was.
In the couple’s engagement interview, the Duchess revealed that Harry had been introducing her to people who knew and loved Diana.

Meghan confessed, “Obviously not being able to meet his mum, it’s so important to me to…be able to meet his aunts and Julia (one of Diana’s closest friends). Just different people who were so important to his mum, and be able to, in some way, know a part of her through them.”
Harry has also given Meghan some of his late mother’s jewellery – including an aquamarine ring she loved, which the Duchess chose to wear to the evening reception on their wedding day.
The engagement ring with which he proposed also includes stones from Diana’s personal collection.
