Katie Holmes just wore the outerwear trend worth investing in this season. Spotted in New York running errands, she wore a deep burgundy bomber jacket by Banana Republic. Not only am I coveting her exact jacket, but her whole look is seriously chic.

Layered over a pink striped knit and paired with dark indigo jeans, this outfit proves that you don't need to complicate your cold-weather attire to feel put-together. Bomber jackets have been a key autumn/winter fashion trend in 2026, taking on a more elevated feel, with luxe leathers in deep autumnal shades being top of the list. Giving the typically more casual silhouette a sophisticated feel.

Alongside the striped knit and wide-leg jeans, Kate finished her look with the Toteme T-Lock bag and black cat-eye shades. To complete her smart casual outfit, Kate chose similarly hued burgundy loafers, ticking off one of autumn/winter 2026's biggest shoe trends.

Build the outfit

In line with the current autumn/winter fashion colour trends 2026, burgundy has established itself as one of the key shades to wear this season. It works particularly well with denim, as the cool blue tones of the jeans balance out the richness of the dark red hue.

There's something both effortless and polished about this combination, and it's so easy to recreate. A burgundy leather jacket adds a luxurious feel to laid-back denim and makes a stylish alternative to classic black iterations. And what's great about this formula is that it works with both the best wide-leg jeans and skinnier styles too.
