Cat Deeley's midnight-blue velvet suit from Jigsaw is the chicest alternative to a party dress
With a rich navy hue and tactile finish, this two-piece is perfect for festive occasions
Cat Deeley's elegant velvet trouser suit has me reconsidering party dresses this season. Seen on This Morning wearing a luxurious midnight-hued blazer with silky lapels and matching wide-leg trousers from the British clothing brand Jigsaw, the star absolutely dazzled.
With party season almost upon us, now is the perfect time to start thinking about what to wear for festive celebrations. Whilst dresses are always a reliable choice, trouser suits are an elegant alternative. Velvet is synonymous with this time of year, and you can't beat a tailored two-piece in this luxurious fabric.
Cat wears the navy velvet shawl-collar blazer with matching wide-leg trousers that fall beautifully, creating an elegant, elongated silhouette. Reflecting the blue of her suit, Cat wore a silvery-blue satin shirt from French Connection and finished her look with black boots, because despite what you might have previously thought, blue and black can work together.
This shawl blazer is made from a soft velvet and features satin trims for a sophisticated finish. The dark navy hue is a far more interesting alternative to black.
These velvet trousers have an elegant wide-leg design that makes them perfect for wearing into the evening. Style with the matching jacket or pair with a silky blouse and heels.
This silky satin blouse will complement just about anything from laid-back denim to tailored trousers. It features a beautiful, fluid drape and a subtle stripe.
The deep navy shade is what really draws us to this trouser suit. It's just as sophisticated as black, but far more flattering on all skin tones, and it catches the light beautifully. The shade goes well with silver, gold or classic black accessories, so you can have plenty of fun with how you style it.
The great thing about a velvet trouser suit is just how much wear you can get out of the individual pieces, the blazer would look just as good thrown on over a simple T-shirt and jeans whilst the wide-leg trousers can also be worn solo with a ruffled or silky blouse, simple shirts or lightweight knits.
If you're looking for something a little bit different to wear this party season, take inspiration from Cat's look. Either keep it simple by wearing the matching pieces and neutral accessories, or add even more texture with a satin blouse or lace camisole. Finish with a pair of heeled boots or slingbacks, and you're good to go.
