If I ever meet a member of Waitrose’s beauty buying team I may just give them a hug.
Not only does the thinking woman’s supermarket stock the excellent Lano Rhubarb Tinted Lip Balm and Korres shower gels (which outsell every other body product in the store) Now, those hallowed shelves will play host to one of my favourite cult collections of this year, Yope.
You may not have heard of this Polish brand, which mostly offers lovely things to wash with, but I doubt there’s a beauty-lover in Britain who wouldn’t fall for its charms. Firstly there are the formulations, all at least 92% natural and nasty-free, in gorgeous botanical blends including verbena, geranium and my personal favourite, Coconut & Sea Salt. The packaging’s a winner too, combining apothecary appeal that you’d be proud to display in your bathroom with quirky animal illustrations and handy pump dispensers (side note: when it comes to shower products I love a pump; no mess, no waste, no unscrewing jars with wet hands and unhygienic dipping of paws in and out)
I’ve worked my way around a fair bit of the range, am yet to find something I don’t get on with, and have repeat-used the Fig Tree Liquid Soap – a rare feat for any product given how much access I have to shiny newness. The last thing I should mention about Yope is the price, which is startlingly fair. I’m talking £8.99 for a giant 500ml hand soap or shower gel and about the same for gorgeous little tubes of buttery hand cream. This stuff is a stone-cold bargain, but doesn’t feel or smell like it, and certainly won’t look like it to guests in your downstairs loo.
What more could you want? I’d recommend stocking up on your next supermarket sweep, I predict these will sell faster than whatever magical pudding Heston has up his sleeve for Christmas this year.
Yope, now available from £7.99 at Waitrose stores
