I've just discovered the easiest setting spray hack that keeps my makeup looking fresh all day
If you wish your base would stick around for longer, you need to read this
Long-lasting, fresh-looking makeup is what we all want, and sometimes even the best setting powders or setting sprays can't give us the longevity and coverage we crave.
Up until recently, I found that even when I pulled out my best foundation and my best setting spray, my makeup didn't last nearly as long as I would have liked. Then, I discovered a genius makeup tip from a professional MUA, and I've never looked back.
I learned that achieving longevity was less about the actual product and more about how I was applying it. It's made all the difference in how my makeup performs from AM to PM - it now looks dewy, fresh and like I just applied it, all day long.
After learning about the Charlotte Tilbury sandwich hack (not her favourite way to prepare a lunch), I was inspired to look into ways to get the most out of my makeup bag.
I heard a few industry professionals recommend applying a light mist of setting spray in between each layer of makeup. So, you use it in place of your primer, then after your foundation, and finally after you've applied your cream or powder bronzer and best cream blush.
It seems so obvious, but it's something that I had never thought of trying before, and after testing it once, I was completely hooked. My makeup went from a solid 6.5/10 to at least a 9/10. My skin looked radiant, glowy and, most impressively, my makeup did not budge.
RRP: £33
This high-performance, lightweight spray primes and sets makeup for 16 hours. It creates a totally weightless veil of hydration and flawless looking finish to prevent fading, smudging and creasing.
RRP: £29.50
Arguably the best-known setting spray on the market, it's recently been reformulated. Now even finer than before, the redesigned formula locks product in place and is waterproof, transfer-proof, and sweat-resistant, too.
RRP: £18
This feels just like a skincare mist with all the benefits of a makeup setting spray. It's enriched with skin-loving ingredients to keep skin plump, hydrated and glowing while securing your makeup all day.
Now that I'm so evangelical about this hack, I've spoken with a pro makeup artist to confirm whether they also thought this was a genius move. Aimee Connolly, founder of Sculpted by Aimee and professional makeup artist, told me, "It's a fantastic trick to use when you really want your makeup to look flawless and last as long as possible. It can make a real difference to your makeup when it's done correctly."

Aimee continues, "It can also help improve the longevity of your makeup, as you're helping products grip to the skin and work together, which can be particularly useful if you have a long day, an event or a special occasion. The overall result is often a fresher, more natural finish that looks less powdery and more like real skin,' she reveals.
While you might not need to do this every day, it's a great idea for extra-long days when you really want your makeup to go the distance. You only need to apply a very light mist between each makeup layer, so you don't create too much slippage. Happy misting!
