Her Majesty the Queen is opening Sandringham House up to the public to host an open-air cinema.
- The Queen’s royal residence will be transformed into a drive-in cinema for the last weekend of September
- The estate confirmed the news in a statement on Twitter
- It follows royal news that the Countess of Wessex returns to royal duties for a cause close to her heart
The Queen has made the bold decision to open up her royal residence to the public.
Sandringham House will turn into a drive-in cinema at the end of September after the original film dates were postponed due to covid-19.
The estate confirmed the news on Twitter, saying, “At the end of September we'll be welcoming @EnchantedCinema for a variety of Drive In Movies in the grounds of Sandringham - see the full list and book tickets via the website."
Royal fans can watch the likes of Toy Story, 1917 and Rocketman for £32.50 per car.
Although the Queen spends at least two months a year at the 600-acre estate, her Sandringham traditions could be altered this year due to the global pandemic.
The 94-year-old Monarch typically spends Christmas at Sandringham and stays there until February. She is usually joined by other members of the royal family.
One person said to be “frustrated” about the change in traditions due to covid-19 is Prince Harry, who missed out on the annual summer trip to Balmoral Castle to visit the Queen with his brother Prince William and Catherine.
Prince Harry is unable to join his grandmother at Balmoral this year as travel restrictions are still in place due to the global pandemic.
An insider told InTouch Harry is “frustrated” to not be able to make the trip to Scotland to be with his family, but wife Meghan Markle is happy to be able to spend time in their new Santa Barbara home.
[She] doesn’t feel like she’s missing out,” the source reportedly revealed. “She’s been too busy decorating their new Montecito mansion.”
