It appears that storylines are getting crossed, and the Duchess of Cambridge's uncle is swooping to his niece's defense.
• During the tell-all interview with Oprah, Meghan Markle insisted that she did not make Kate Middleton cry before her wedding to Prince Harry; in fact, she stated that the opposite happened.
• Kate Middleton's uncle does not believe Meghan Markle's accusation.
Who to believe? Rumors swirled that Meghan Markle made Kate Middleton cry over a flower girl dress debacle before her wedding to Prince Harry. However, during her sit-down with Oprah, Meghan stated that "the reverse" happened.
"I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something," Meghan told Oprah. "But she owned it, and she apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing."
Kate Middleton's uncle, Gary Goldsmith, isn't buying that narrative. He spoke candidly to the Daily Mail and insisted that it's not in Kate's nature to do such a thing.
"I’ve known Kate since she was born, and she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body," he told the news outlet. Then, he went as far as to suggest that if anyone had a "hissy fit," it would've been Meghan.
Although the rivalry between the two duchesses has long captured publishers' attention, Meghan did take the opportunity during her interview to insist that there is no need to pick sides.
Currently, the two are keeping busy with separate undertakings: Kate is working on capturing photographs of the past year that focus on the positive—the heroism and the selflessness that were on display during the pandemic.
"Through Hold Still, I wanted to use the power of photography to create a lasting record of what we were all experiencing—to capture individuals’ stories and document significant moments for families and communities as we lived through the pandemic," she stated.
Meanwhile, Meghan and Prince Harry are tackling new ventures now that they've stepped away from their royal titles: praise swirled when BetterUp, a mental health company, announced that Prince Harry will join its leadership team as its first chief impact officer—a role the Queen plans to watch very closely.
