Modern Love season 2 promises all the romantic entanglements of its first season, after the show became a breakout hit. The anthology series dedicates each episode to a submission from the hugely popular New York Times column of the same name.
Its first season was such a hit that the two-year wait—which we can blame the pandemic for—was especially arduous for fans. However, one of the Amazon Prime benefits is that you can watch it all at once as the second season premieres August 13. The latest installment is replete with all new characters and promises delightfully complicated love stories to go alongside them.
This means there's a brand new cast of well-known actors playing out the scenarios, based on real-life experiences from the New York Times (opens in new tab) column and podcast.
Modern Love season 2 will provide viewers with eight brand new, unconnected love stories. These stories aren't just about romantic love, but all the different kinds of love and interpersonal relationships—we're talking platonic, romantic and sexual.
"Love breaks all the rules. Each episode of this anthology series brings to life different stories of love, relationships, betrayals, and revelations—all inspired by true events," says this season's synopsis. Trust us, they're not kidding and judging by this season's cast list, it's going to be a hell of a ride.
The first season; which included stars like Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, and Dev Patel; is certainly a tough act to follow but listen up because this time around will get you feeling all the fuzzies.
Minnie Driver, Kit Harrington, Anna Paquin, and Tobias Menzies are among the cast for this season; which was filmed in Dublin, New York City and in Upstate New York in Albany, Schenectady, and Troy.
Those of you that believe variety is the spice of life will be delighted with the selection of stories that feature this time around.
The series will focus on storylines including the rekindling of old relationships, explorations of identity and sexuality, new bonds formed in the most unexpected places and it wouldn't be 2021 without a Covid 19 inspired tale of the heart too!
One such story stars Anna Paquin, who you'll recognize for her many roles, including in Black Beauty and True Blood. The actor stars alongside Garrett Hedlund in a story about two people who bond over the shocking and painful discovery that their respective partners are having an affair—with each other.
Another, starring Circle of Friends star Minnie Driver and Tom Burke, tells the story of a woman mourning the love of her life. Confronted with selling her late husband's vintage car and saying goodbye to him forever makes for a truly beautiful, if heartbreaking, story.
