Melanie C’s departure from Dancing with the Stars last night has been met with widespread outrage, as fans blast her shocking elimination as unfair.
Sporty Spice and her partner, Gleb Savchenko, were booted off the glitzy ABC dance competition on Monday evening, after failing to wow viewers with their quickstep choreography to Grease’s iconic song, 'You’re the One That I Want.'
In a surprising twist, they landed in the bottom two opposite Youtube star Olivia Jade Giannulli and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy, who shared their score from the experts of 36/40. Despite the judges unanimously agreeing that both couples deserved to stay in the Dancing with the Stars 2021 cast, it was Mel C who was ultimately sent packing. The decision to save Olivia has led to a major backlash from viewers, with many questioning the fairness of the show's voting policy. The outcry, which is currently heating up online, comes shortly after fans objected to the Dancing with the Stars' Season 30 changes.
The fourth and final call was made by Len Goodman, whose vote swayed the result in favor of the controversial social media star.
Despite Mel C receiving a vote from Carrie-Ann Inaba and Bruno Toniolo, her hopes at survival were cut short when Len sided with Derek Hough and voted to keep Olivia in the competition. The rules of Dancing with the Stars states that, as head judge, Len makes the decision on who goes home.
Mel C accepted the elimination gracefully, telling reporters after the show that she’s “very proud” of herself and “danced to the best of my ability.” She also took to Instagram to thank her “fantastic” dance partner, Gleb, the show’s production and crew, and her “amazing fans” for supporting her throughout the journey.

“I’m gutted to have been eliminated tonight but it’s one of those things and it wasn’t meant to be. It’s been an incredible experience and I’ve met some wonderful people,” she wrote.
It didn’t take long for viewers to condemn Mel C’s elimination, with many taking to Twitter to vent their frustrations. A number of people objected to Len's superior voting powers, which give him the ability to determine the final outcome in the case of a tie.
So understanding the rules on DWTS, how is it fair that Len ultimately decides who goes home and it wasn't even like 2-2 vote, it was just up to him basically. What is this, the Len show? #DWTSOctober 13, 2021
That’s it @abc. This rule on @DancingABC where Len’s vote automatically breaks a tie, even if his vote causes the tie, is bullshit. Mel C should be in the finale. I have nothing against Olivia Jade, but you need to change your rules. Quit alienating the fans! #DWTS #abcOctober 19, 2021
Others weren't happy that Mel C was eliminated over Olivia Jade, who has been the subject of intense controversy ever since the infamous 'college admissions scandal' of 2019.
Olivia's parents, actress Lori Loughlin and fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, were handed prison sentences last year after being convicted of fraudulently enrolling their two daughters in the University of Southern California.
The 22-year-old Youtuber's participation in Dancing with the Stars has understandably been a serious point of contention, with many viewers arguing that she has yet to make amends for her involvement in the scandal.
This criticism has only escalated in light of Mel C's elimination, which has some people taking to Twitter to accuse the show of being biased towards Olivia.
Did Lori Loughlin slide a check to the producers of #DWTS to keep Olivia Jade longer than LITERAL SPICE GIRL MEL C? I said what I said.October 19, 2021
You REALLY eliminated Spice Girl legend Mel C and kept Olivia Jade, who became famous for being a fraud? Really? That’s what we’re doing? #DWTS pic.twitter.com/0s9OKwZTmcOctober 19, 2021
