Jamie Lee Curtis calls for the word 'anti-aging' to be 'struck' in refreshing take on getting older
Jamie Lee Curtis has identified as 'pro-aging' at a recent virtual summit, after suffering a bad experience with plastic surgery in her forties

Jamie Lee Curtis has issued a call to action we'll happily respond to—stop using the word 'anti-aging'.
The US actor spoke candidly about society's attitude towards getting older during the Radically Reframing Aging Summit last month, calling for people to shift how they perceive the so-called 'loss' of youth.
"This word 'anti-aging' has to be struck," she told host Maria Shriver. “I am pro-aging. I want to age with intelligence, and grace, and dignity, and verve, and energy.”
The refreshing insight comes a little more than a year after Jamie Lee revealed her battle with addiction, after reaching 22 years of sobriety from drugs and alcohol. The 63-year-old has previously admitted that she became dependent on prescribed Vicodin following minor plastic surgery, prompting her to boycott invasive beauty treatments for life.
“I am an advocate now for natural beauty because I do feel that there has been a genocide on natural beauty,” she said.
Jamie Lee also explained that she has learned to embrace her older body by not fixating on her reflection.
"I’m not denying what I look like, of course I’ve seen what I look like," she said. "I am trying to live in acceptance," she said. "If I look in the mirror, it’s harder for me to be in acceptance. I’m more critical. Whereas, if I just don’t look, I’m not so worried about it."
The Freaky Friday star echoed these sentiments in a recent Instagram post about her latest film, Everything Everywhere All at Once. Jamie revealed that she wanted her character, IRS auditor Deirdre Beaubeirdra, to be free of the manipulation of women's appearances that is so prevalent in the entertainment bubble and beyond.

"In the world, there is an industry—a billion-dollar, trillion-dollar industry—about hiding things. Concealers. Body-shapers. Fillers. Procedures. Clothing. Hair accessories. Hair products. Everything to conceal the reality of who we are. And my instruction to everybody was: I want there to be no concealing of anything," she wrote.
"I've been sucking my stomach in since I was 11, when you start being conscious of boys and bodies, and the jeans are super tight. I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal."
