Cameron Diaz has opened up about how her decision to quit acting has changed her life in a candid new interview.

The Charlie's Angels star has been noticeably absent from the Hollywood box office over the past few years, confirming her retirement three years ago to focus on her personal life. Since the release of her final film, Annie, in 2014, she has prioritized her relationships and motherhood—tying the knot with musician Benji Madden in 2015 and welcoming her first child in 2019.

Cameron has now revealed the real reason behind her retirement, admitting that acting was simply consuming too much of her time.

Speaking with Kevin Hart on his Peacock talk show, Hart to Heart, she explained that the intensity of her career was compromising other aspects of her life.

"When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time...when you're the person who's the talent...all parts of you that isn't that has to sort of be handed off to other people," she said.

She added that "every aspect" of her life "from finances to the management of me as a human being" was affected by her grueling film career, which at some points had her churning out multiple blockbuster movies a year.

Cameron added that, despite enjoying her job, she didn't feel satisfied by the constant productivity. "For my personal, spiritual self, I was realizing that that one part of me that functioned at a high level wasn't enough."

This isn't the first time the Bad Teacher star has addressed her retirement publicly. She opened up about the issue during an appearance on Gwyneth Paltrow's podcast last year, explaining that she could no longer cope with the exhausting work schedules of being a high-profile actor.

"I stopped and really looked at my life," she said during the in-depth conversation with the Goop founder. "When you're making a movie, they own you. You're there for 12 hours a day for months on end, you have no time for anything else. I really needed to know that I could take care of myself, that I knew how to be an adult."

She has since swapped red carpets and movie sets for a low-key life with her husband in Beverly Hills, where she keeps busy by raising their one-year-old daughter, Raddix. The major lifestyle change has done wonders for Cameron's happiness, helping her to finally "feel whole" for the first time in decades.

"For me, I just really wanted to make my life manageable by me," she told Hart. "My routine in a day is literally what I can manage to do by myself."
