Sally Rooney’s first book Conversations With Friends being made into BBC series

Sally Rooney’s Conversations With Friends is coming to the small screen.

With Irish author Sally Rooney’s standout novel Normal People already on its way to the TV, the writer’s debut release Conversations With Friends is now set to join.

Despite being already in production elsewhere, the 2017 novel is now being adapted into a TV series by the BBC.

What do we know about the Conversations With Friends adaptation?

Conversations With Friends is set to be produced by Element Pictures and aired on BBC Three, with the series being made up of 12 half an hour episodes.

And it sounds like it might even be one for the awards shows as the series is set to be directed by Lenny Abrahamson, who was nominated for an Oscar for 2015 Brie Larson film Room, for which the actress won an award.

“I am so pleased to be working with the team at Element, Lenny Abrahamson and the BBC to produce an adaptation of Conversations with Friends,” said Sally of the adaptation.

“I’m confident we’re going to find fresh and interesting ways of dramatising the novel’s dynamics, and I’m excited to watch the process take shape”.

What is Conversations With Friends about?

Conversations With Friends follows two young university students, close friends Frances and Bobbi, who live in Ireland’s Dublin.

The two girls become friends with older couple, successful photographer Melissa and her handsome actor husband Nick, who whisk the young friends onto the city’s wealthy literary scene and sees them invited to a stream of lavish parties and even a luxury holiday in the South of France.

It also deals with themes surrounding the complicated friendships and relationships that we all encounter in life, as well as the important and sometimes frustrating issue of women’s health.

When will Conversations With Friends be released?

A release date for the series hasn’t yet been confirmed, but luckily we have Sally Rooney’s Normal People adaptation to fill the gap until it does.

The drama that follows childhood friends Marianne and Connell is thought to be hitting screens sometime in the spring.
