For those who make the annual journey to designer discount mecca, Bicester Village, your pilgrimage to choose a new luxury handbag could be brought closer to home with news that a similar shopping destination will open in London’s O2.
One of the biggest UK property companies, Land Securities, is in talks with the owners of The O2 Arena to conceive a designer shopping destination to rival the Oxfordshire retail village and hopes to lure luxury labels from Dior and Louis Vuitton to Dolce & Gabbana. In total, developers plan to create over 100 luxury stores selling discounted big-ticket products. The designer development would help to attract daytime visitors to an otherwise evening venue, known only for hosting large-scale gigs and shows.
Bicester is said to be a favourite shopping destination of the Duchess of Cambridge, who’s family home is located nearby and since its inception, the Village has become the most successful designer discount emporium in the world, attracting tens of thousands of wealthy visitors from abroad.
So whether it’s last season’s Mulberry handbag, a sleek Celine coat or those much-coveted Jimmy Choos, it seems Southerners will now have a slice of designer luxury, just a stone’s throw from their homes.
