Will Prince William and Kate Middleton attend the BAFTAs? Many fans are curious as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are typically in attendance at this star-studded event.

It has been revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton will not be making an appearance at the 2022 BAFTA awards.

A spokesperson from the awards ceremony told Variety, "We’re delighted that BAFTA president, the Duke of Cambridge will be participating in the EE BAFTA Film Awards via a pre-recorded video message." The spokesperson added, "due to diary constraints he is not able to attend in person this year."

Reportedly Prince William was also set to deliver a pre-recorded speech via video during the 2021 virtual ceremony. However, it is thought that the Duke pulled out when his grandfather, Prince Philip died at age 99, the morning before the ceremony.

In previous years the royal couple has been in attendance, and in 2020, the couple made an in-person appearance and were filmed wincing at Rebel Wilson's savage joke about Prince Andrew during her opening speech.

This 2022 ceremony will be a particularly special occasion, as it marks the first time since the pandemic that the awards ceremony has been celebrated with a full in-person event.

The couple usually make time in their calendars to appear at this royal engagement. In 2019, 2018, and 2017, the Duke and Duchess appeared on the red carpet and watched the ceremony that celebrated the best of Hollywood film and television of that year. Even when the Duchess was pregnant with their youngest child, Prince Louis, they made sure to attend the event.

It is unclear exactly what the royal couple are up to that conflicts with their diary, but Prince William and Kate are planning a Caribbean trip that could change the future of the British monarchy forever

On March 19, the couple will visit the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Belize for a 12-day tour. It is thought that this trip is in order to 'strengthen' the Commonwealth nations' support for the British monarchy ahead of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations this June.
