Prince William and Duchess Catherine encountered an adorable rescue koala bear when they had a video call with a wildlife park in Australia.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been speaking to local business owners and first responders from Kangaroo Island, South Australia, about the devastating wildfires that hit the area earlier in the year.
And during their video call to a Dana Mitchell, co-owner of a wildlife sanctuary in the area, the royal couple met Grace the koala bear, who had been rescued by the centre after being run over by a car.
"She looks very well looked-after, I have to say," gushed Prince William. "Grace looks like she has a very nice life there."
During the call, Dana revealed to the pair that the koala population in the country has dropped from 60 to 80,000 to an estimated five to 10,000 since the bushfires earlier this year, adding that approximately 48 per cent of island was impacted by the fires.
Sharing the sweet video on their Instagram page, Kensington Palace wrote, ‘The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge heard from local business owners and first responders from Kangaroo Island 🇦🇺 a small community off the south of Australia, who were impacted by devastating bushfires earlier this year.
‘Not only have they had to rebuild their lives from the wildfires, but they also had to manage to the spread of COVID-19, which has hugely impacted their desire get back to a normal life.
‘The bushfires caused significant damage to residents’ homes, livelihoods, along with thousands of animals and their habitats.
‘Its residents, joined by our friend Grace 🐨, have shown an incredible community spirit and continue to provide support to those in need.’
