Prince Charles gets sneak peek of historical landmark for official first opening in 900 years
The Prince of Wales officially opened Hay Castle to the public and fans have admired his 'stamina' and positivity throughout the day...
Prince Charles has been given a sneak peek at a historic building as he officially opened it to the public for the first time in its 900-year history.
- Prince of Wales has had an incredibly busy Wales Week so far and he received praise from fans as he undertook another packed day of engagements on July 7th.
- One of these saw him officially open the centuries-old Hay Castle to the public and enjoy a glimpse of what it now offers to visitors.
- This royal news comes as Kate Middleton was spotted at a local trampoline park playing with her kids 'just like any other mum’.
Some might’ve expected the Platinum Jubilee to be a busy time for the extended Royal Family and they’ve certainly been proved right so far! Many of those high up in the royal line of succession in particular have been observed undertaking even more engagements and tours so far in 2022. This includes the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, who as future King and Queen Consort will continue to have an ever-increasing amount of responsibilities.
Now just a week after Prince Charles joined two more of the Queen’s children for Holyrood Week, he and the Duchess are enjoying their annual Wales Week. This celebrates Welsh culture, community, and achievements and the couple have had a packed schedule so far.
And Prince Charles appears to have been treated to a look at the historic Hay Castle on July 7th as he did an official grand opening…

Taking to social media, Clarence House shared several brilliant snaps of the Prince of Wales beaming as he met the people of Narberth in Pembrokeshire and was shown around their town.
He also got to be introduced to scholarship students from St Vincent and the Grenadines during a visit to the University of Wales Trinity St David’s campus as many people celebrated graduation. These students have been supported by the future King ever since their education was devastatingly disrupted by natural disasters last year.
And the day’s engagements didn’t stop there! In the seventh photo Prince Charles could be seen pushing open the immense doors of Hay Castle in the market town of Hay-on-Wye. Part-Norman, part-Jacobean and part-Victorian, the castle has now been officially opened to the public for the first time in its 900-year history by the Prince of Wales.

Visitors will be able to learn more about the past on iPads, dress up in medieval costumes, test out its 150-year-old Colombian letter press and even watch educational films projected onto the castle walls. Prince Charles certainly looked delighted to try out the letter press for himself and beamed as he met people dressed up in the historical costumes.
His enthusiasm is something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans, with many praising not only how “happy” he looked but his dedication having undertaken so many engagements that day.
“I love the way the Prince leans into a smile”, one person commented as another agreed, writing, “Prince Charles looks so happy”.
Whilst someone else reflected on his focus and commitment as they declared, “This man has the stamina of a 30 yr old!”
Wales Week will draw to an end very soon, though given how busy Prince Charles’ diary has been, especially this year, it’s unlikely he will continue to be spotted at many prominent engagements over the coming months.
