The Duchess of Cornwall made an appearance at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London yesterday to mark their annual Founder’s Day, which usually holds a celebration on 4th June but was postponed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Duchess visited in honour of the Founder’s Day Parade, which commemorates when King Charles II founded the hospital back in 1682.
‘The King founded the hospital to give veterans a place to live after retiring from their duties,’ wrote Clarence House on their Instagram page.
‘Today the site is home to nearly 300 Chelsea Pensioners, both men and women, who are all former soldiers of the British Army’.
And in her usual fashion, the Duchess stunned fans with her gorgeous outfit, this time opting for an all-white ensemble.
Duchess Camilla stepped out wearing a beautiful white flared coat with pretty lace detailing on the front.
She paired the sleek piece with white leather gloves and simple nude pumps.
And the royal finished off her chic outfit with the surprising addition of a straw hat.
Giving us all summer holiday feelings, Camilla wore a statement wide brim straw hat as she carried out her visit.
Making a moving speech during the engagement, she said: “I know that you have been through a particularly tough time of late, having lost 10 Pensioners to Covid-19.
“I should like to express my heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who have died, and to each of you as you go through the painful process of adjusting to the gap left by those much-loved friends.”
She said afterwards, “In times of war and times of peace, whether seen or unseen, the armed forces support and strengthen our nation, just as each one of you Chelsea Pensioners did throughout your careers.”
