Why Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan's Neighbours lines were so short and it's not the reason you think!
A producer has revealed why Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan's Neighbours appearance didn't contain much dialogue from Scott and Charlene
Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan's Neighbours appearance confused some fans as the iconic returning cast members had barely any lines.
Some fans speculated that the reason that Kylie and Jason had so few lines in the Neighbours finale was that the show couldn't afford to create a full storyline and pay the A-listers for more fleshed-out scenes.
"Was Kylie paid by the word? She's practically mute! #Neighbours," said one fan of the show on Twitter. "They could afford Kylie Minogue but only if she didn't speak. #Neighbours," speculated another fan.
However, a producer on the show has now revealed the real reason why Jason and Kylie had so few lines when they returned to Ramsay Street.

Speaking to TV Tonight, Jason Herbison, the executive producer of Neighbours, revealed that the scenes with Jason and Charlene were filmed before the final script for the last episode had been completed. This meant that they had to ensure that the dialogue was brief and fit in with the rest of the story. He also revealed that the crew didn't want the return of Scott and Charlene to overshadow the rest of the finale.
"Our discussions with Jason and Kylie were always about making a small appearance," said the producer. "They didn't want to overshadow the current cast or make the finale about them. We also filmed their scenes before I'd written the episode, so whatever we filmed had to fit in with that."
The producer added that he was sad to see Kylie get some flack online because of her lack of dialogue. "I hate to see Kylie copping any criticism – she was nothing short of amazing on the day," he said.

Not all of the comments about Kylie and Jason's return to the street was negative, and many fans felt that their short appearance was the perfect way to end the show.
"Scott & Charlene return I know some people weren't happy with it. I actually thought it was well done. I didn't want Kylie to overshadow I think The lack of dialogue worked well just her looks of pure nostalgia did it for me I mean come on getting Kylie Minogue! #Neighbours" said one fan on social media.
Another fan agreed and said that it was fantastic that the Neighbours finale cast was filled with so many familiar faces who had their careers launched by the show. "Major respect to the likes of Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan for taking the time out of their busy schedules to pay tribute to the show that made them stars. #NeighboursFinale #Neighbours"
