Tom Hanks protected his wife, Rita Wilson, in New York on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, as the Hollywood couple were hounded by fans and one knocked into Rita causing her to trip.
Tom Hanks is set to star in the new Elvis movie, and has been the center of a great deal of attention during the press tour for this film. While the publicity for this film has been great, and fame is not something new for Tom Hanks, fans overstepped a line on Wednesday night and pushed into Tom's wife Rita Wilson when trying to speak to the star.
This frustrated the Cast Away actor who then yelled expletives at the fans who caused his wife to lose her footing and was forced to yell 'Stop it!' at the crowd.
Once checking that his wife was ok after being pushed into, the actor then turned back to the crowd and shouted, "My wife? Back the f**k up! Knocking over my wife?!" The famous couple then quickly headed towards a car waiting for them and a bodyguard helped them to leave the chaotic scene. Some people in the crowd yelled out their apologies to the actor, but he seemed angry and frustrated as he got into the car.

Fans were quick to defend Tom Hanks on social media and many suggested that he had every right to swear at the fans who pushed into his wife.
"Tom is a human being, anyone would react in that way. It must have been really frightening," said one fan.
Others agreed and felt that Tom's actions were only natural when seeing his wife put in a dangerous situation. "I don’t blame Tom Hanks for defending his Wife and all in my personal space. Back TF [the f**k] up," said the fan.
"Just when I thought I couldn’t love him anymore. He did nothing wrong except standing up for his wife," agreed another.
"If Tom Hanks is cussing you out, you F'ed up," said one Twitter user who seemed to be referencing the fact that the actor is typically known for his kind demeanor in the film industry.
Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have been married for more than 30 years since they wed in 1988. The couple has two children together, two boys named Chet and Truman who are now in their late twenties and early thirties.
