Why is Samantha not in the new Sex and the City reboot? Here's the real reason Kim Cattrall didn't do And Just Like That
Wondering why Samantha is not in the new Sex and the City reboot? Here's why Kim Cattrall didn't take part in the long-awaited And Just Like That reunion.
For months we have been excited about the Sex and the City reboot and finally, the show has launched and can be watched from anywhere in the world!
Although Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kristin Davis are returning to their respective iconic roles as Miranda, Carrie, and Charlotte in the show, Kim Cattrall has noticeably not returned as a main member of the cast.
So what really happened behind closed doors that meant Kim didn't want to return, and how has the series written out this former main character?

Why is Samantha not in the new Sex and the City Reboot?
The main reason that Kim Cattrall has refused to participate in the new reboot of Sex and the City is because she has fallen out with the other leading ladies in the cast.
It was well documented that while the other three main characters got on like a house on fire, Kim was somewhat of an outsider and also said no to filming a third sequel movie to the Sex and the City film franchise.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Kim said opened up about how she was treated by her co-stars.

"The common ground that we had was the series and the series is over," Kim said.
"Sarah Jessica [who plays Carrie Bradshaw in the show], she could have been nicer, she could have in some way. I don’t know what her issue is, I never have."
Another incident took place which added fuel to Kim and Sarah Jessica's already fragile relationship. After the death of Kim's brother, Sarah Jessica commented with her condolences on her social media page.
"Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother," said the actress.
This sparked Kim to respond with a post that read, "I don't need your love or support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker."
The relationship between the former co-stars never healed and since refusing to participate in the reboot, Kim Cattrall has made subtle digs at Sex And The City co-stars, firmly cementing their dislike for one another.
Most recently, Kim liked a post on Twitter branding And Just Like that "trashy".
The social media post commended Kim for ditching Sex and the City's reboot to star in Hulu's How I Met Your Father, a How I Met Your Mother spin-off.
So proud of @KimCattrall for skipping the trashy S&TC reboot and doing @HIMYFonHulu. She’s wonderful, and so is @HilaryDuff 👌🏼 If you have 48 minutes to spare, go ahead and watch the first two episodes…I may even rewatch them before next week. Challenge accepted!January 18, 2022

Kim hit the 'like' button, seemingly confirming that her sour feelings surrounding her connection to Sex and the City hasn't faded.
How has Samantha been written out of Sex and the City?
There were many rumors about how Samantha would be written out of the Sex and the City reboot, but as the series launched it became clear that the writers would choose an interesting storyline that some fans have labeled as 'disrespectful' and 'tacky'.
In the show, it is revealed Samantha ended her friendship with Carrie after being fired as her publicist. In a scene that takes place early in the first episode, Carrie tells Miranda, "It’s kind of like she’s dead, we never talk about her," Carrie adds, "She stopped returning my calls."
"Her pride got damaged," replies Miranda.
Carrie responds sadly stating, "I thought I was more to her than an ATM."
Charlotte and Miranda confirm that the two of them have also not been able to get in touch with her despite numerous calls and it is revealed that Samantha has left the big apple and moved to London.
"I guess that’s all we could do," Miranda says.
"I always thought the four of us would be friends forever," Carrie adds.
Fans were shocked by this scene and many took to social media to share their anger, with many insisting that the storyline is unrealistic and lazy.
"How are you going to drop two bombshells like that? The disrespect to Samantha and that just destroy a big character in episode 1?," said one annoyed fan.
"Samantha would never ghost Carrie over work, money or anything else like that. This is the same woman that fed Carrie yogurt like a baby when she was broken-hearted. It’s sloppy writing and of course written to give Carrie/SJP the victim edit. Tacky." added another.
Although Samantha has been written out of And Just Like That, reportedly producers had ‘high hopes’ Kim Cattrall will be back for Sex and the City spin-off.
The first two episodes of And Just Like That premiered back in December 2021, but if you're wondering how to watch the Sex and the City reboot, it's now available to watch on NOW TV in the UK and HBO Max in the US.
