  • If you love Beatrix Potter and all things cute things, you’ll be dying to get your hands on one of the limited edition 50p coins.

There are four designs with images of Peter Rabbit, Jeremy Fisher, Tom Kitten and Benjamin Bunny. The characters are dressed in their original outfits as seen in the much loved books and we just cannot get enough.

Last year the Royal Mint released a similar collection and following its popularity they have decided to increase the number of designs. The original collection featured the characters Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Squirrel Nutkin. It also included another Peter Rabbit design.

The Royal Mint launched the coin collection to celebrate the author’s 150th anniversary. The new collection went on sale on their website on Monday and have been causing quite the commotion. The website has a queue system in place due to the high level of traffic.

The new coins were made by Royal Mint designer Emma Noble. She has previously worked on pieces that commemorate the Diamond Jubilee and Remembrance Sunday.

Each coin design will be released at different dates throughout the year. On 3 April 30,000 coins with the Peter Rabbit design in colour went on sale for £10. It quickly sold out as coin collectors rushed to the website.

If you haven’t managed to get onto the Royal Mint website to buy your own limited edition coin you might be lucky enough to find one in general circulation. A 50p with Peter Rabbit on it is sure to brighten your morning any day of the week. Unfortunately the general circulation coins are not coloured but I think we can all agree that they are still super cute!
