Anyone who dreams of leaving the humdrum of everyday life behind and going in search of adventure won't fail to be inspired by Edie, Shelia Hancock's inspiring new movie.
The film tells the tale of one woman’s indomitable spirit, as the first trailer – a Woman & Home UK exclusive – gives a taste of.
The BAFTA-nominated actress stars as Edith Moore, an elderly woman who sets out to overcome a lifetime of bitterness and resentment following the death of her controlling husband.
At the tender age of eighty-three and against her daughters’ wishes, Edie sets out to try and capture a little of the magic she had as a young girl by climbing a Scottish mountain.
Breaking free of the confines of her everyday life, Edie heads to Scotland where she employs a young lad, Jonny (played by Sunshine on Leith star Kevin Guthrie) to help her prepare for the gruelling climb ahead – sparking an unusual friendship in the process.
As the film’s tagline – ‘it’s never too late to find yourself’ – suggests, it’s a tale of triumph over adversity as Edie embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.
Along the way, she overcomes challenges, comically tries her first sip of Strongbow, and reaches heights – both physically and emotionally – that she barely dreamed possible.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Highlands, it’s also a powerful reminder of the restorative effect of nature.
The film premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival, where it was also nominated for the prestigious Michael Powell Award.
Set to be released next month, it has already garnered rave reviews, and has been described as ‘wholly uplifting’ by critics.
