In a surprise move from L’Oreal Paris, the major beauty brand has anounced an exclusive collaboration with fashion powerhouse Balmain. The beauty giant has never collaborated with a fashion house before, so this forthcoming set of 12 exclusive lipsticks has stirred up great excitement.
In contrast, high-end fashion house Balmain is no stranger to a smart collab – they’ve been making moves in affordable fashion and beauty arenas since going under the direction of French fashion designer Olivier Rousteing. His collaboration with H&M back in 2015 sold out in record time and he clearly succeeded in his aim to make his designs available to a greater audience, and a collection he designed for Nike Lab last year under his own name also proved a hit, drawing more attention to the label from a potential new audience.
And who better to team up with next than L’Oreal Paris, a household beauty brand that is known and loved by many of us? Be honest, how many times have you popped into Boots for something essential but walked out with a new L’Oreal Paris lipstick or mascara?
The collection of 12 Colour Riche lipsticks are bound to embody the same bold and glamorous aesthetic that Rousteing has injected into Balmain in recent years. And we are sure they will sell out in no time as they are part of the popular Colour Riche collection.
Rousteing will oversee the shades of the 12 lipsticks as well as the packaging and the ad campaign. It is set to launch in September 2017.
The designer is known to be close to the Kardashian and Jenner sisters as well as Gigi Hadid. At least one of the 12 lipsticks could be a shade of nude as Kim Kardashian is renowned for only sporting natural coloured lips. There will also be three star shades which will be packaged as part of a “jewel edition”. These will be sold exclusively in Balmain stores and some other retailers.
It is also possible one of the Kardashian/Jenner sisters will feature in the ad but it is unlikely to be Kendall or Kylie given their existing cosmetic commitments.
This is L’Oreal Paris’s first ever collaboration with a fashion house and it is bound to spark excitement among devout followers of both brands.

Details are unsurprisingly hush-hush, but I’d expect sizzling, womanly shades – reds, wines and definitely that creamy nude often spotted on his ‘Balmain Army’ of A-List friends. No need for ruinous designer handbags when you can have a piece of designer chic inside your handbag for the price of a cocktail!”
In a statement L’Oreal Paris said: “With L’Oréal Paris, Rousteing brings the raw creativity with which he has reinvented Balmain, from the Paris runways to his first ever beauty collection.”
It added: “The crossroads of high fashion and affordable beauty, the Balmain aesthetic reaches a new audience through the world’s most-loved lipstick: Colour Riche. N°1 globally, a Colour Riche lipstick is sold worldwide every 3 seconds.”
