DVD: An Education

by Jennifer Tippett on Monday, 8 March 2010

An Education has a gritty storyline of deceit, lust, and romance. Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is a very bright 17-year-old with a passion for French literature and music, who finds herself in a whirlwind romance with the much older David (Peter Sarsgaard). She was working hard at secondary school to ensure her place at Oxford University (a feat that would please her ever nagging father and protective mother). But when she sees the lifestyle David can she's hooked, and thoughts of Oxford are forgotten.

But it doesn't take long before the real truth of his lifestyle choices are revealed and Jenny is left reeling. The script is created by Nick Hornby and Lynn Barber, on whose life the story is based, and already has awards from the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and a Golden Globe nomination under its belt.
