Planning a dreamy getaway? Siargao in the Philippines has just been named the best island in the world, so you might want to add it to your bucket list.
Conde Nast Traveler readers voted Siargao to the top spot, making it officially the best island according to them. Taking a quick look at some of the pictures, and it’s very easy to see why - just look at those beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters...
Siargao has a population of 200,000 and it’s not overrun with tourists, so it’s an ideal destination if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful and practically untouched.
Unfortunately it’s not easy to get to, as the island doesn’t have an international airport. Instead you’d need to travel to Manila, Singapore, Seoul or Hong Kong, then transfer onto a propeller plane for a final two hour flight.
If you’re a surfer, this island will be absolutely perfect for you, as it’s widely regarded as the ‘surfing capital of the Philippines’. Travellers can find 15 spots perfect for surfing, and there are plenty of schools and places to hire boards if you want to try it out for the first time.
But if surfing isn’t your thing, there’s plenty of other things to do on the island. It’s ideal for hikes due to its woodland space, so you can get exploring and keep active even whilst you’re on holiday. There’s even a lagoon surrounded by mountains!
Or if relaxing in a sun lounger is more your thing, a book and a cocktail will be enough to relax on those dreamy beaches. It’s hard to not picture yourself there, isn’t it?
We don’t know about you, but we’ll be packing our bags and heading out there as soon as possible...
