Why does The Queen keep her decorations up until February?
The Queen traditionally marks the anniversary of death of her late father, King George VI, at Sandringham House, where he passed away on February 6, 1952.
He died in his sleep aged just 56, when the Queen, who was then Princess Elizabeth, was 25.
Every year, she stays there until it is time to return to Buckingham Palace, several days after her father’s death anniversary.
Next February, the monarch will mark a special milestone with an unusual request to the public.

Queen Elizabeth rose to the throne on 6 February 1952, but her Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II will be celebrated in June 2022.
