Prince Harry hit headlines last week after he criticized his father's parenting style, which he attributes to a cycle of "genetic pain." Speaking on the Armchair Podcast, the Duke of Sussex accused Prince Charles of treating him "the way he's been treated" growing up.
"I've experienced pain or suffering, because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my parents or father suffered," he revealed.
The comments sparked instant controversy, with many people criticizing Harry for unfairly blaming his father for his mental health issues.
When questioned over Prince Harry's comments about the Royal Family by a reporter last week, Prince Charles remained silent.
While tensions are clearly high between father and son at the moment, it wasn't long ago that the two had a close relationship.
In a resurfaced clip from 2017, Harry and Charles appeared to be on great terms with each other. The Duke of Sussex, who was working as guest editor for BBC Radio 4's Today Show, revealed he and his dad often shared long conversations with each other. A topic that always got them heated was climate action, a cause Prince Charles has been championing since 1968.
"We could talk about this for hours and hours, which we always do, but not with a microphone in front of us," Harry said.
The duke went on to establish his respect for his father's knowledge of the environment, adding that he often consults with him on the issue.
"I do end up picking your brains more now than I ever have done," he admitted.
The royal pair also revealed their affectionate nicknames for each other, with Harry referring to his father as "Pa" at the beginning of the interview. At the end of the segment, Charles addressed the duke as his "dear boy" before praising him for giving him "enormous optimism" on the issue of the climate emergency.
Their once-close relationship is rumored to now be in tatters, with Prince Charles reportedly "feeling wretched" by his son's recent allegations. His ex-butler, Grant Harrold, revealed that their bond is irrevocably broken, with the prospect of reconciliation between the already strained duo completely shattered by Harry's comments.
"The damage is done," he said. "And that makes me sad because the relationship that I knew which was a loving, caring, fun relationship can never be like that again."
