Prince Charles and Katy Perry may be global superstars, but just like us, they too love a good curry.
The unlikely duo has partnered for the Big Curry Night In, an annual event that raises money for the British Asian Trust. Participants are encouraged to contribute to the organization's 'If I can, she can' appeal while enjoying a spicy dish, either delivered or homemade, in the comfort of their own home.
Donations will help transform the lives of women in the poorest parts of South-East Asia while ordering or preparing a curry is a great opportunity to support local businesses.
There’s even a chance to win a virtual meeting from a lineup of its famous ambassadors, including pop star Katy Perry, DJ Naughty Boy, TV presenter Konnie Huq, actor Sanjeev Bhaskar, and cricket player Jos Buttler. The public can enter the competition to say hello to one of these beloved stars via video call, at a time that is convenient for both the winner and the celebrity.
Meanwhile, it seems the prince is more than excited for the evening.
“The British Asian Trust will be undertaking various activities including, rather wonderfully, the Big Curry Night in,” Prince Charles announced in the 3-minute long video released yesterday. “I need hardly say that I do rather hope you might all be able to participate in this.”
As the royal founding patron of the organization, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II has spearheaded its initiatives since its launch in 2007. Last February, the prince brought global attention to the charity when he named Katy Perry as an ambassador of its Children Protection Fund, a $14 million program to combat child trafficking.
Participants in this year’s fundraiser can choose any night between March 5 and 14 to host their Big Curry Night In, and all money raised before May 31 will be doubled by the British government.
