EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis is being lined up to star as the ‘first Deaf lead actor’ in a new BBC drama.
The 27-year-old has been a huge hit on this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing, wowing audiences and judges not only with her incredible performances alongside Giovanni Pernice, but her humour and brilliant personality too.
And now it looks like Rose could be tipped to bag another big acting job following her successful stint on the show.
According to The Sun, Rose—who rose to fame as Frankie Lewis in EastEnders—could be set to explore other opportunities outside of Albert Square once Strictly is over.
An insider revealed, “Rose has already shattered so many stereotypes during her time on Strictly and execs will be keen to see that continue once the show has ended.
“Although she is committed for the foreseeable future to EastEnders, that doesn’t mean that she won’t be looking at her longer term prospects. Especially as she’s seen her profile soar as a result of sailing into the final.”
With the BBC reportedly keen to keep Rose on the channel, they could be looking to develop a drama in which the lead character is deaf.
“The BBC will be keen to ensure that she takes her next step with the corporation, rather than with another broadcaster who could be keen to sign her up,” the source explained.
"It's been a fantastic journey, she's developed a lot as a dancer, but yeah it's been lovely," he revealed in a recent press conference. "I always say I'm the one privileged to do this journey with Rose, if she was doing it with someone else I'd be quite jealous. Big time."
On their partnership, Rose said, “I knew we were going to be a good team. One thing I really liked about Gio is his track record [laughs]! And then I realised he was funny and we have a similar sense of humour. He's a very good teacher but he can have fun. It's been better than I ever thought it was going to be.”
Watch the final of Strictly Come Dancing, tonight at 7pm on BBC1.
