Sir David Attenborough has left Instagram just two months after he signed up.

The acclaimed broadcaster broke the record when he first joined in September. In just 4 hours and 44 minutes, Sir David had gained a million followers.

This surpasses Friends’ Jennifer Aniston’s time - 5 hours and 16 minutes. Whilst Harry Potter star Rupert Grint recently broke Sir David’s record with an astonishing 4 hours, 1 minute.

Despite this record being overtaken, he still boasts a staggering 6.2 million followers.

So why is Sir David’s Instagram profile now showing as ‘no longer active’?

Why has Sir David Attenborough left Instagram?

According to Tyla, a spokesperson for A Life On Our Planet has said that Sir David Attenborough’s Instagram involvement was "to be a series of special messages over a limited period of time".

They added that they “wanted to use the platform to explain the current problems facing our natural world and the solutions to help us deal with them.”

So it seems Sir David fans will not be receiving any more Instagram updates from the famous broadcaster.

However, the spokesperson has confirmed that the account will remain open for people to watch Sir David’s videos and read his existing posts.

Ultimately, they reveal: “Sir David and the filmmakers hope that their messages will inspire others to speak up for nature and take positive action towards creating a sustainable future."

What has Sir David Attenborough posted on Instagram?

Originally joining ahead of the release of A Life On Our Planet, Sir David delighted fans with his first Instagram post on 24 September.

Speaking in a video, he introduced himself to Instagram and announced: "I'm making this move and exploring this new way of communication to me because, as we all know, the world is in trouble."

He spoke of continents on fire, melting glaciers, dying coral reefs and depleting fish populations. However he concluded more optimistically: "But we know what to do about it, that's why I'm tackling this new way, for me, of communication.”

Sir David Attenborough remains committed to conservation and the fight against climate change. Recently, he and the Duke of Cambridge have launched an exciting new project together.

Despite leaving Instagram, we are sure the words and actions of this national treasure will continue to inspire us to protect our planet for future generations.
