A royal expert has claimed Princess Diana and Meghan Markle both wanted something from the Queen that they "didn't get".
- Royal commentator, Ingrid Seward, claims Princess Diana "never forgot" who her mother-in-law was.
- She suggests Meghan may have also been "overawed" by her Majesty.
- It follows royal news that Prince William sent his well wishes to Christian Eriksen following Euros 2020 collapse.
A royal expert has suggested both Princess Diana and Meghan Markle sought something in the Queen that they didn't get.
Both women notably struggled to fit into The Firm and royal commentator, Ingrid Seward, has explained why that might be.
"The Queen doesn't talk about her feelings and she doesn't encourage others to talk about their feelings either," Ingrid told The Mirror.
"Diana had meeting after meeting with the Queen, who ultimately felt it was the same conversation happening over and over again."
Meghan and Harry have spoken openly about the royal family to the media
Ingrid claims the late Princess of Wales could never get past the fact the Monarch was also her mother-in-law.
"Diana never forgot who her mother-in-law was and that provided a barrier that was not of the Queen's making."
While the Duchess of Sussex was far older and wiser upon entering the royal family, Ingrid suggests Meghan may have experienced similar feelings.
"I don't know if Meghan was overawed in that sense because Meghan was a grown woman with experience of life when she joined the royal family whereas Diana was a young girl.
"But I think both women wanted something from the Queen that they didn't get."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently revealed Meghan struggled so much with life in the royal spotlight that she considered taking her own life.
The shocking confession came during the couple's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, with Harry elaborating further on it on their new Apple TV+ docuseries The Me You Can't See.
On the night in question, the couple were due to attend a premiere at the Royal Albert Hall. Prince Harry shared with Oprah during the episode that the public may recognize photographs from the night, where Harry can be seen holding his wife's hands tightly as they enter the historic London building together.
Princess Diana tragically died in 1997
Meghan is pictured looking poised and smiling brightly throughout the evening, but it has since come to light that she was suffering a great deal of inner turmoil.
“What perhaps people don’t understand is, earlier that evening Meghan decided to share with me the suicidal thoughts and the practicalities of how she was going to end her life,” he revealed in the emotional interview.
