The Queen has marked a special day today as she is celebrating a milestone in her reign.

The Queen has marked a special milestone today as she celebrates the 67th anniversary of her coronation (opens in new tab).
The Royal Family Instagram page uploaded a throwback image of the monarch on her special day back in 1953, writing alongside the post, ‘Today marks the 67th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
‘Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on 2 June, 1953 in Westminster Abbey (opens in new tab),’ explained the caption. ‘Her Majesty was the thirty-ninth Sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey, the setting for every Coronation since 1066.
‘Whilst an occasion for celebration, The Queen’s Coronation was a solemn, religious ceremony that lasted almost three hours. The service has remained essentially the same for over 1,000 years.

The account also posted a series of pictures from the special day in their story, alongside a stream of facts about the Queen’s coronation.

Posting a photo of the monarch at Westminster Abbey, they wrote, ‘The Abbey has been the setting of every Coronation since 1066, and The Queen was the 39th Sovereign to be crowned there.’
They also gave some background about the Queen’s specially made Coronation Dress, revealed that ‘it was made of white satin, and embroidered with the emblems of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in gold and silver.
And sharing a photo of a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne alongside their parents Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, the account wrote, ‘After the ceremony, The Queen returned to Buckingham Palace and greeted the cheering crowds from the balcony’.
