Queen Elizabeth's grandson Peter Phillips and wife Autumn Phillips have officially divorced
Princess Anne's son becomes the first royal of his generation to separate from his spouse
Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn Phillips have officially finalized their divorce, 16 months after announcing their separation.
- Peter and Autumn first announced their separation in February of 2020. They were married for almost 13 years.
- The couple originally met back in 2003 during the Formula One Grand Prix in Montreal.
- In other royal news, Princess Anne was reunited with an old flame during Royal Ascot 2021.
It's a sad day for the only son of Princess Anne, the second eldest of Queen Elizabeth's children. Peter Phillips, who is 17th in line to the British throne, has separated from his wife, Autumn, after 13 years of marriage.
Peter is the first in his royal generation to split from his spouse. While he and Autumn consider this a "sad day", the two are happy to have been able to handle the separation amicably.
"Whilst this is a sad day for Peter and Autumn, they continue to put the wellbeing and upbringing of their wonderful daughters Savannah and Isla first and foremost," a statement released by the former couple said. "Both Peter and Autumn are pleased to have resolved matters amicably with the children firmly at the forefront of those thoughts and decisions."
The pair also requested "privacy and consideration for their children as the family adapts to a new chapter in their lives."
Peter and Autumn originally separated back in 2019 after informing the family, including the Queen, of their decision. The Royal family and Autumn's family were both "naturally sad" about the couple's announcement, but claimed to be "fully supportive".
Their last public appearance together occurred during the same year at Braemar Highland Games in Scotland with the Queen, Prince Charles, and Duchess Camilla.

Peter and Autumn aim to raise their two daughters together, and while Autumn is a Canadian native, a previous statement claimed that she plans on remaining in Gloucestershire, in the south west of the UK, to bring up their children.
The family have been settled in the English county for a number of years and do not wish this to alter.
