Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla have celebrated the return of an iconic event for the first time in two years and enjoyed a mini version - much to the delight of fans.
- The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall stepped out in London to mark the return of the Notting Hill Carnival after a lengthy hiatus.
- The annual carnival in August will be the first to be held since 2019 and over a million people are expected to attend over the bank holiday.
- This royal news comes as we revealed that Duchess Camilla is intending to follow Prince Philip’s 'philosophy' when it comes to her future in the Royal Family.
Just like many members of the extended Royal Family, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have had plenty to celebrate this year, from the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee to Prince William’s 40th birthday. Duchess Camilla will soon be marking a big birthday herself as she’ll turn 75 on July 17, but ahead of this exciting occasion she and Prince Charles have been given a very special treat.
Stepping out in Notting Hill on July 13, the future King and Queen Consort beamed as they enjoyed a “mini-carnival” ahead of the highly-anticipated return of the iconic Notting Hill Carnival in August.
Sharing some splendid summery snaps on social media both the official Clarence House and Royal Family accounts revealed how significant the carnival is both within the UK and globally. And fans couldn’t have been more excited to see Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla celebrate this marvelous event!

“🥳 Celebrating the return of Notting Hill Carnival!” the Royal Family’s caption declared excitedly, before adding, “The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall today visited the @tabernaclew11 for a ‘mini-carnival’ ahead of the real event in August – which will be the first one since the pandemic.”
Whilst on their own social media accounts, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla shared a little of the history behind this annual festival and revealed that only Rio Carnival surpasses the Notting Hill Carnival in size.
“Born in 1966, London’s vibrant Notting Hill Carnival is today second only to Brazil's Rio Carnival in size and is now one of the globe's largest annual arts events,” the caption stated.

“Notting Hill Carnival’s ever-increasing popularity over the last five decades has seen it become the wonderfully diverse and vibrant event it is today. Rooted in Caribbean culture, with its Windrush-generation influence remaining strong, it is also characteristically ‘London’.”
And whilst we got to see Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla celebrate ahead of the bank holiday return of the Notting Hill Carnival, they’re expected to be the first of a staggering number. Over a million visitors are expected to attend the full carnival from August 27th-August 29th and it’s possible some royal fans could be amongst them as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s outing received quite the joyful response.
“Wonderful, wish I was there ❤🦒❤”, one person wrote longingly as another shared, “Golly, what fun! 😍❤️”.
“I've never been, Notting Hill Carnival always looks like a good time 😍👏👏👏”, a third fan agreed.
Whilst someone else reflected, “Looked like fun! And the weather cooperated splendidly 🤩🌞”.
Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla’s “mini-carnival” celebration comes just a few days before her 75th birthday. In honor of this milestone, she’s recently become the third Royal Guest Editor of Country Life magazine for a special edition with a stunning cover photo taken by Kate Middleton. And with Prince George's own birthday just a few days later, July will continue to be a month of great celebration for the royals!
