Before Nadiya arrives at our August cover shoot, we wonder if post-Bake Off life might have changed the woman who charmed us with her “big fat British wedding cake”, those facial expression and that tear-jerking victory speech. After all, she’s since baked a cake for the Queen, written three books and been named one of the most influential people in Britain. And now? She has two more TV series, Nadiya’s British Food Adventure and The Big Family Cooking Showdown, plus two more books on the way. It’s instantly clear however that Nadiya has hardly changed one bit.
So what has she learnt in her 32 years? “Appreciate family and friends,” she told us. “Life will move on and people will change. Enjoy them while you have time.” We can’t argue with that. But what about those baked goods? “Enjoy that chocolate cake now because when you’re older it will be a toss up between cake or lettuce,” she said. We couldn’t agree more! She let us in on a few secrets to staying in shape, too. “Now that I eat so much cake, I’m on a constant mission to find ways to enjoy exercise,” she said. “The kids and I all have our own bikes now, so we go cycling in the woods while Abdal jogs alongside with the kids shouting, ‘Keep up, Dad!'”
