It’s been an eventful few weeks for the Royal family. But after a difficult Christmas, the family have started off the New Year with a bang. Last week, the Duchess of Cambridge received a photographic honour, Prince Harry met his girlfriend Meghan Markle’s father, and letters written by the late Princess Diana about a young Prince Harry and Prince William were sold at auction for over £15,000.
But what have the Royal family been getting up to in the last few days?
Charity To Spend Year Honouring Princess Diana
In the 20th year after the Princess of Wales’ death, charity The Diana Award is preparing to spend the next 12 months rolling out a series of events to honour her and her legacy. Both Prince Harry and Prince William – who are keen supporters of the charity and the work it is planning to do – have recently spoke out about how they’ve coped with their mother’s death in the years since, with both admitting that they struggled losing their mother so young. At a recent event, Prince William admitted to a young boy who had also lost a parent, that he was “very angry” after Diana passed away in a car crash in 1997.
The charity plans to run a National Day of Kindness, to commemorate the many charity projects Diana undertook, and will introduce an international award in her name. The organisation already runs projects such as an anti-bullying initiative.
Royal Families Favourite Musicians Revealed
Earlier this week, it was revealed that one of the Queen’s favourite ways to while away an evening was by watching the popular BBC One game show Pointless. And now, her favourite musician has been discovered – and it might surprise you. The Queen apparently loves Take That star Gary Barlow, having stated that the song ‘Sing’, which he wrote for her Diamond Jubilee in 2012 is one of her favourites. Apparently, she’s also admitted to being a fan some hymns and Fred Astaire’s classic collection.
So who else do the royal family love? The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are certainly big fans of Ellie Goulding, as she was asked to play at their wedding reception back in 2011. She even performed her classic cover of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ as their first dance song. But the Prince has proven to have an eclectic taste in music over the years, also admitting that he loved bands like Linkin Park, Coldplay and The Beatles – with his favourite song their classic hit ‘Yesterday’.
Kate Middleton Heads Out On First Royal Engagement Of 2017
The Duchess of Cambridge has today resumed her royal duties following the Christmas break with a visit to the Anna Freud Centre in Holloway, London. Kate, who recently celebrated her 35th birthday, looked polished in a royal blue, £1,650 Eponine London coat and a navy pair of her go-to pumps by Rupert Sanderson.
The centre offers help and support to parents and children suffering from mental health issues, which is a cause close to Kate’s heart, having recently launched a mental health campaign, Heads Together, along with Prince William and Prince Harry. The Duchess’ visit to the centre marks her first royal engagement after spending the festive period with both her family in Berkshire, and the royals at Sandringham over New Year.
Prince George Set To Start At New School
Kate and William have officially put Prince George’s name down at the £6,500-a-term Wetherby School in London – meaning the family are expected to move from their Norfolk home back to London before he starts. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with George and Charlotte, are expected to make Kensington Palace their permanent home when their oldest, who turns four in July, starts at the London school. The pair have lived in Norfolk since they married in 2011, where George has been attending the Westacre Montessori nursery near Sandringham since early 2016. The London school was also attended by both Prince Harry and Prince William, so is a popular choice with the royal family.
The school is also attended by a host of famous offspring, including Elizabeth Hurley’s 14-year-old son Damian, Victoria and David Beckham’s son Cruz, and Myleene Klass’ daughters. Supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s son Caspar also attends the school currently, as does Elle Macpherson’s son Cy.

The royal was given the celebrity David Beckham, who he appeared to struggle to guess. The young royal has been a patron of Centrepoint since 2005, regularly touring it’s centres for young homeless people. Harry and Meghan’s First Holiday Together
The Prince recently whisked girlfriend Meghan Markle away for their first holiday together, and made sure to pick a romantic destination – the picturesque Norwegian town of Tromvik. The small, idyllic spot is famed for it’s view of the Northern Lights and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, so is guaranteed to make for a quiet, secluded getaway for the famous couple. Apparently, the pair have spent their stay in the Norwegian town at the luxury Tromvik Lodge, which boasts a jacuzzi, sauna and stunning views over the ocean. The couple jetted off on their trip last Monday, and although it’s not known whether they are back home yet, Prince Harry has no official engagements in the UK planned for the next two weeks.
Queen Makes Her First Public Appearance Following Ill Health
Over the weekend the Queen made her first public appearance for over a month after having suffered from a heavy cold over the festive period. She was spotted arriving at a church service at Sandringham on Sunday, accompanied by husband Prince Philip. After the service, the Queen made sure to wrap up warm in a blue blanket to ensure she continued to recover from her cold.

They were spotted walking to the Church along with the rest of the Middleton family, including Kate’s mother Carole, sister Pippa, father Michael, brother James, and Pippa’s fiancee James Matthews.
