This year’s top earning musicians have been unveiled in a sneak preview of the Sunday Times Rich List 2017, an annual list of the 1,000 wealthiest people or families in the UK.
Adele is the only solo female musician to feature in the top 20, with her personal worth increasing from £85 million to £125million in the past year thanks to her 122-date global tour, which raked in £138m, and record-breaking album 25.
She’s joint 19th with Queen guitarist Brian May in the list of richest musicians in the UK
The UK’s other top-earning musicians are mostly older men, with Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell ranking number one with £780 million, followed by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, U2, Sir Elton John and Sir Mick Jagger.
Olivia Harrison, George Harrison’s widow, and their only son Dhani, come in at number 7 with £210m. The only other woman to feature on the top 20 list of rich musicians is Sharon Osbourne, alongside husband Ozzy, with a shared fortune of £140m.
The list hasn’t changed much since last year’s, which also featured Sir Elton John, Sir Mick Jagger, U2, Lord Lloyd-Webber and Sir Paul McCartney in the top 5 spots.
The nation’s richest couples have also been revealed, with businessman Ernesto Bertarelli and his wife, songwriter Kirtsy Bertarelli, worth a reported £11.5 billion. Actress Salma Hayek and her husband Francois-Henri Pinault come in 4th, worth £3.44 billion.
The Sunday Times Rich List 2017 will be published on Sunday 7th May.
