Team GB’s kit, which will be worn by athletes at the olympics and paralympics in Rio this summer, has been unveiled by Adidas. The clothing has been drwan up by British designer Stella McCartney, and is already being praised by the athletes for its patriotic design.
A new coat of arms has been created especially for the purpose, and features strongly throughout the clothing. It incorporates the floral emblems of the four Home Nations: a rose for England, thistle for Scotland, leek for Wales and flax for Northern Ireland, and is topped by a lion resting on a crown.
The motto IUNCTI IN UNO means ‘conjoined in one’ to represent the sports combined together, and the whole thing was commissioned by Adidas for the College of Arms in London to design.
Adidas Creative Director Stella McCartney worked closely with athletes including Jessica Ennis-Hill, Tom Daley and Laura Trott to ensure the kit is fit for the nation’s leading competitors. With cutting-edge technology, performance-boosting fabrics that are 10% lighter than in 2012 and a patriotic spirit, we can only hope that this is the first step to a host of 2016 Team GB medals!
