The Obamas Have Signed A Double Book Deal Worth A Whopping $60 Million

It may feel like a thousand years have passed since America’s much-loved President Barack Obama and his First Lady Michelle left the White House, but it’s actually only been a little over a month. Despite this, the couple have already announced their next steps – and they begin with an exciting double book deal that was announced today.

Penguin Random House have confirmed that both Barack and Michelle are set to pen books about their time in office. And, although exact figures haven’t been disclosed, it’s reported that bidding for the titles surpassed a colossal $60 million: a record deal when it comes to US presidential memoirs.

True to form, the Obama dream team aren’t in it for the cash. Insiders say the couple are planning to donate a “significant portion” of the proceeds to their Obama Foundation – a “startup for citizenship” that will be located in the South Side of Chicago.

So, what can we expect? Well, according to initial reports the couple will focus on their eight years in the White House – although any further details are still sketchy. According to Associated Press, Obama’s book will provide a straightforward narrative about his time as President. Michelle, on the other hand, reportedly plans to focus her book on inspiring young people with her extraordinary life story.

“With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same,” Penguin Random House CEO Markus Dohle said in a statement.

“Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance.”

It isn’t the first time the couple have dabbled in writing, so we’re particularly looking forward to their next ventures. Barack impressed many critics with two books entitled ‘Dreams from My Father’ and ‘The Audacity of Hope.’ Meanwhile, Michelle wrote about food and gardening in her 2012 book ‘American Grown’.

We can’t wait to read their next literary creations. Watch this space…
