Shania Twain opens up on devasting double betrayal that saw her husband cheat on her with her best friend

Shania Twain spoke about her divorce in a candid interview as she revealed that she has moved on from her first marriage which ended in divorce in 2010.

Shania Twain's ex-husband, Mutt Lange, and her former best friend and secretary Marie-Anne Thiébaud had an affair back in 2008, which resulted in the couple getting a divorce in 2010. While this was devastating for Shania then, the star says she now looks back without any resentment and has a healthy co-parenting relationship with her ex. 

In an interview with People (opens in new tab), Shania said, "I found peace a long time ago, and maybe peace is forgiveness, you know?" said Shania. "I'm able to have more appreciation for him again, not for what happened in our marriage but for all that he contributed to such a great part of my career and my life. We have a beautiful child from it. The resentment is gone."

Shania reflects on the fact that her ex-husband left her for another woman. "I do believe that everyone's got to do what is right for them and I wouldn't wanna stand in anybody's way. So in that sense, I really found such a wonderful life and I was able to recover," she said.

Her ex-husband was her former producer and 'music partner,' Shania revealed how she felt when she had to find her own voice. "I was able to work through the fear of working without Mutt. I was able to work through finding my own independence again as an artist after being so long with a music partner," she said. 

"I reconnected with my own courage, and I just don't need him anymore for that. And in that sense feel I can look at all of what he did for me and all he contributed to such a great part of my career and a great part of my life. In the end, Mutt and I share a child and we co-parent and we enjoy that very much," Shania concluded. 

The star then spoke about her current husband, Fred. In a bizarre twist, Fred and Shania first bonded because Fred was married to Marie-Anne, the woman Shania's husband had an affair with.

Speaking about her life with Fred, the star said, "That is a really strong bond that builds over time, that is rare, that you don't have in every relationship if you don't have those deep scars in common." Shania added, "We were a big part of each other's healing."

The star even revealed that she planned to never marry again, but Fred changed her mind. "When I got divorced I said, 'I'm never getting married again.' I was definitely one of those people that could have written a million songs about, 'I'm never going to fall in love again,'" said Shania. "But Fred was such an undeniable love."
