“They say some things never change, but the truth is, life is full of surprises…”

So says the familiar voice of Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City’s iconic fashionista played by Sarah Jessica Parker in the trailer for the upcoming reboot of the hit series.

Fans of the show were given a treat today as Cynthia Nixon—best known as straight-talking lawyer Miranda—dropped the first full-length trailer for And Just Like That.

And Just Like That is the title of the HBO Max reboot to Sex and the City, which will reunite many of the original cast members.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are all returning as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte respectively, with Chris Noth (Mr Big), the late Willie Garson (Stanford Blatch) and even Natasha (Bridget Moynahan) also returning.

Fans will remember that Natasha was, at one point, Mr Big’s wife, and something of a rival to Carrie.

Carrie and Mr Big had an affair while he was married to Natasha, resulting in an infamous chase that left Natasha in hospital with broken teeth.

Natasha features in the trailer for And Just Like That, shown to be looking down upon Carrie from her apartment window with a look that perfectly captures the expression of 'if looks could kill.'

Bygones aren’t bygones here.

While many familiar faces are back in the trailer, one character fans won’t be seeing is Samantha Jones.

Played by Kim Cattrall throughout the original series and both movies, Kim declined to return to the reboot.

Kim has been open about not wanting to revisit the character since 2017.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, Kim responded to questions of returning for another movie saying, “Not for me. That was part of turning 60. That was a very clear moment of, how many years do I have left and what do I want to do with it? What haven’t I done? I feel that the show was the best when it was the series and the bonus was the two movies.”

HBO Max has explained Kim Cattrall's character Samantha Jones won't be returning for the Sex and the City spin-off series because they wanted to reflect the "actual stages of life" which often see friends part ways.

“As your story unfolds, the city reinvents itself”, Carrie’s voiceover continues in the trailer. “And just like that, a new chapter begins.”

And this new chapter begins on December 9, streaming exclusively on HBO Max.
