Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle have been reportedly dating for a year now, but we’re yet to see a picture of the happy couple together.
Despite this, it’s clear that the couple’s relationship is serious, after Meghan’s candid interview with Vanity Fair, where she openly admitted, “We’re a couple. We’re in love.”
The opening ceremony of the Invictus Games 2017 – the event that first brought the couple together in May 2016 – in Meghan’s home town, Toronto, Canada, seemed like the perfect time for that special first photograph together.
However, there were no pictures of the pair enjoying the ceremony, as the Suits actress didn’t sit next to Harry – she was actually three rows away from her boyfriend, in a different stadium block all together.

Meghan isn’t a royal or a dignitary, therefore it would be breaking royal protocol if she were on the same row as First Lady Melania Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who were seated next to the Prince.
Harry has received some criticism for the seating arrangement at the Games. Piers Morgan discussed the topic on Good Morning Britain, calling Harry “ridiculous”, much to the shock of his co-host Susanna Reid.
“All he’s done is cause a massive distraction. I wish I could advise the royals,” Piers ranted.
“Harry, this is what you should have done, mate. Two days ago, when you got to Toronto, you should have taken Meghan out for dinner and posed for pictures. You should have given them what they want.”
However, viewers were quick to defend the Prince on social media, calling out Piers for his comments.
One wrote on twitter: “I think Prince Harry is right in keeping a distance fr g’friend at such an important event….Invictus Games…sorry Piers your wrong #GMB”
Despite being sat apart, it’s been reported that the couple’s closeness was still very apparent, with Harry continously glancing back at his girlfriend, who is said to have looked elated during the 2-and-a-hour ceremony.
Harry has been fiercely protective of his relationship with Meghan, issuing a statement to the media last year, asking journalists and photographs to respect his new girlfriend’s privacy.

Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games as he wanted the world to be inspired “by the spirit of those who wear the uniform”. Athletes from 17 countries will compete in 12 sports over eight days.
Speaking to the althetes, Harry said, “You have all come such a long way.
“Some of you have cheated death and come back stronger than before. Some of you have overcome emotional challenges that until very recent years would have seen you written off and ignored.
“And now you are here. On the world stage, flags on your chests, representing your countries again, supporting your teammates, and looking up into the stands, and into the eyes of your friends and families. You are all winners.”
