A new series titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood has been confirmed by Starzplay, the producers of the beloved historical drama, Outlander.

Since Outlander Season 6 concluded earlier this year, fans are desperate for more drama from the Fraser clan. Fortunately, their wishes have been granted by the producers of Outlander who have just confirmed that they will be producing a new prequel to the original show!

The series is set to be titled, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, and will focus on the earlier generations of the Frasers. Here is everything you need to know about this exciting new show.

What will Outlander: Blood of My Blood be about?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will focus on the earlier generation of the Fraser clan, specifically Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. The story will reportedly be focused on their romance and will be set in Scotland, like the beginning of the Outlander series.

Outlander is based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon, and the author revealed in February 2022 that she was writing a prequel. Diana shared a post on Facebook that revealed her possible opening line to the book about these characters.

"And it is only a line--but I think it's possibly the first line of the book: 'Ellen MacKenzie, eldest of the children of Jacob Ruadh MacKenzie, chief of Clan MacKenzie—well, the late chief, if only by moments, but she’d think about that later—grabbed Ailidh Watt from behind and dragged her out of sight, clapping a hand over her slobbering mouth to stifle her cries,'" read the post.

Apart from these notes from Diana, there is little else known about this upcoming series or the possible characters who may appear in this beloved show.

Will Outlander: Blood of My Blood be based on a book?

As the author Diana Gabaldron has not yet released her latest prequel book it is unclear what this new series will be based on. Starz announced that the author would be a Consulting Producer, but Diana took to Facebook to refute these claims.

"Well....THIS is interesting...Note that I have no idea what a 'Consulting Producer' is, and no one has talked to me about being one. This doesn't mean that I won't be involved with the show, but I have no details at the moment," said the author.

Diana then clarified that although she is currently writing a prequel, the show about the prequel has not been 'green-lit' and is only in the works at the moment. This means that it may or may not be based purely on Diana's work.

"Yes, I am writing Brian and Ellen's story. I have no idea what the timing of the show might be, or to what extent the show-runners plan to use the book (insofar as it exists by that point). 'In development' is not the same thing as being green-lit; it just means they're starting to put together the pieces." The author added, "I'm just mentioning it here because Starz announced it today on Twitter and Facebook, so figured everyone would be wanting to know about it."

When will Outlander Blood of My Blood be released?

The creators of Outlander have not confirmed when this show will be released. The only official statements about this show have been vague and it seems to be in a very conceptual stage at the moment. Nonetheless, producers are very excited about this new project.

“Outlander is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world," said Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming at Starz. "We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began. Matthew, Maril, and Ronald will continue to bring their excellent vision and creativity to this new iteration, and we can’t wait to see what happens next."
