Earlier this week, the BBC released a mysterious teaser for the forthcoming fourth series of Luther.
Scenes of an unmade bed, Luther’s police ID and his voiceover asking, “Do you ever have that dream when you’re falling? Do you ever wake up in it?”, already have us on tenterhooks.
At the end of series 3, aired back in 2013, DCI John Luther’s (Idris Elba) old friend Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) returns to save him after he becomes suspected of murder. With twists and turns at every corner, the finale had us all wondering whether Luther ready to hang his coat up and leave his career in the police force.
Though the 10-second teaser is brief, one thing is for sure – this two-part mini series will have you on the edge of your seat. The BBC stated: “Luther’s back. Pitted against his most
chilling adversary yet, haunted by the ghosts of his past and hell-bent
on retribution, he’s drawn into a terrifyingly complex case that pushes
him closer to the edge than he’s ever been.”
Reprising his role as the lead, Idris said of his iconic character: “You forget that you’re watching a police officer when you’re watching
Luther. He almost takes on a superhero quality – he never changes his
clothes, he never sleeps. The writing is so good and so dark. It’s like a
comic book version of Columbo!”
Luther returns to BBC One in December.
