Line up your friends… The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society – an irresistible romantic drama with an intriguing mystery at its heart – lands in cinemas on 20 April.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, which hit the top of the New York Times Best Seller List in 2009, we’re predicting this movie will be every bit as popular.

Taking the lead role, Lily James (Darkest Hour and Cinderella) is Juliet Ashton, a free-spirited writer who arrives in Guernsey just after the Second World War on a whim after receiving unexpected correspondence from fan Dawsey Adams (Michiel Huisman).

Charmed by the letters from Dawsey and after meeting eclectic fellow members of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (a book club formed during the island’s occupation in the war), Juliet embarks on a life-changing journey.

As she writes about the islanders’ experiences during the war, she forms unexpected bonds, learns the meaning of bravery and discovers how a passion for literature lifts the hearts and souls of the islanders.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is directed by the acclaimed Mike Newell of Four Weddings and a Funeral, and brought to the big screen by the producers of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The stellar cast also includes Matthew Goode, Tom Courtenay, Katherine Parkinson and Downton Abbey favourites Penelope Wilton and Jessica Brown Findlay.

With beautiful landscapes and heart-wrenching moments, the #GuernseyMovie will stir your emotions and linger in your mind long after the usher has cleared the last popcorn.

Oh, and be sure to spot the moment when Juliet Ashton samples an actual Potato Peel Pie. (Clue: it doesn’t go down well…)
