Following their secret marriage last year, golden couple Jason Kenny and Laura Trott have announced they are expecting their first child. The Olympians made the exciting announcement on Instagram, posting a touching photo of a child’s bike next to their own ones.
Soon after, mum-to-be Laura shared with her 156,000 followers a cute snap of her adorable dogs and their “reactions” to the pregnancy news. One with an imaginary thought bubble saying, “Yay! Means I can wake up even earlier” and the other saying, “Noo! I need sleep!” Her next post featured a tiny pair of Adidas trainers, for the new arrival.
Many fans and friends have rushed to support the sporting couple, congratulating them on their news.
The couple’s agent Luke Lloyd-Davies has also made a public statement: “I can confirm that Laura Kenny is indeed pregnant and that she, Jason and their respective families are absolutely thrilled and delighted with the news.”
24-year-old Laura has previously joked that she hopes their offspring would inherit their sporting genes. Meanwhile Jason, 28, has joked on Twitter about becoming a dad, sharing a photo of a cartoon flyer from The Simpsons saying “So you’ve ruined your life.” He wrote alongside it: “I wondered why this leaflet came through in the post.”
2016 was an exceptional year for the couple. Laura became the first female British athlete to win four gold medals at Rio, and Jason won his sixth gold medal there too.
Following Jason’s victory, he said: “The best thing about it is that we get to come away together and race together.
“Not many couples in the Olympic village can enjoy their success together. So that’s really special and I feel really lucky about that.”
After the Olympics, the couple tied the knot at a private ceremony in Cheshire in September, surrounded by friends and family. The duo made an effort to keep their special day solely among their nearest and dearest, only releasing photos to the public once the ceremony was over.
It’s clear 2017 will be bringing more delight for the golden couple – we wish the parents-to-be the best of luck!
